Tips before traveling to the UAE

Route and visa

Russian tourists do not need a visa for a visit to the UAE. Direct flights to the Emirates are available from many cities in Russia, including Moscow, with a flight duration of about 5 hours.

Climate conditions

The UAE is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf, which means year-round sunshine and high temperatures. The climate is hot and dry – a tropical desert climate with frequent sandstorms. The best time to visit is from November to April when temperatures are a comfortable 28-30°C. During other months, you may find yourself relying heavily on air conditioning, missing out on enjoying the city and the bay.

Language

The official language of the UAE is Arabic, though many locals also speak Farsi and Hindi. However, there’s no need to worry, as almost everyone in Dubai speaks fluent English. In some tourist areas, you might even find someone who speaks Russian.

Dress code

It’s important to remember that the UAE is a Muslim country that highly respects religious traditions and rules. While there are some relaxations for tourists, the country still adheres to Sharia law. For example, on hotel beaches, visitors are not required to wear traditional Islamic swimwear like a burkini. However, in public places, it’s advisable to cover your shoulders and knees. Given Dubai’s temperatures, opt for natural fabrics such as linen or cotton. Also, remember to carry a light cardigan or shawl, as air conditioning in malls and restaurantscan be quite strong.

Top attractions in Dubai

Skyscrapers and observation decks

Burj Khalifa

Standing at 828 meters, Burj Khalifa is the tallest skyscraper in the world – 3,5 times the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The skyscraper houses offices, hotels, apartments, shops, and restaurants. The observation deck, At the Top, is located on the 124th floor, offering breathtaking views of the city.

Dubai Frame

Impressive in its dimensions, the Dubai Frame stands 150 meters high and 93 meters wide, designed according to the golden ratio principles. The main attraction is the observation deck, where you can see Dubai through panoramic windows and experience the thrill of walking on a transparent floor, creating a sensation of weightlessness.

The View at The Palm

Located on the 52nd floor of the tallest building on the artificial Palm Jumeirah island, this observation deck offers stunning views of the Persian Gulf and the grandeur of the island. From here, you can appreciate the scale and magnificence of this iconic landmark.

Natural parks and gardens

Dubai Miracle Garden

This is another record-breaking attraction in Dubai, being the largest flower garden in the world. Spanning 7 hectares, the garden is designed in a circular layout and boasts over 250 million plants, including 50 million flowers. The garden is divided into seven zones, featuring replicas of world-famous landmarks and a massive airplane made from 500,000 white flowers. The walkways are adorned with floral arches shaped like hearts and figures of swans, making it a paradise for flower enthusiasts. Known as the Garden of Wonders, it also houses the largest outdoor butterfly garden, home to over 15,000 butterflies since its opening in 2013.

Zabeel Park

One of the largest and most renowned parks in Dubai, Zabeel Park covers around 50 hectares. Located in the heart of the eastern city, near the iconic Emirates Towers, the park is divided into several themed zones connected by pedestrian bridges. Must-see attractions include the panoramic tower, unique installations like the New Moon, and plenty of pathways to stroll and soak in the atmosphere. The park offers insights into the history and religion of the UAE.

Glow Garden

Glow Garden impresses with its enchanting atmosphere, especially in the evening. The park features illuminated art installations, miniatures of the UAE's main landmarks, and various themed entertainment zones. It’s not only a spectacle of lights but also includes an ice sculpture exhibition, a dinosaur park, and a park with 3D illusions and attractions.

Museums

Museum of the Future

Opened in 2022, this young museum is housed in an elliptical building adorned with Arabic calligraphy, featuring excerpts from poems by Dubai's Emir Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The museum’s message is about actively creating the future rather than waiting for it. National Geographic listed it among the 14 most beautiful museums in the world. Exhibits transport visitors into a futuristic world, showing what our world could look like in 50 years, including space research, the role of AI, advancements in robotics, and the future of medicine.

Al Fahidi Fort and Dubai Museum

The first fortifications in Dubai date back to the late 18th century, but the Al Fahidi Fort, as it stands today, was built in 1878, making it the oldest existing building in the city. The fort served multiple purposes, including as a prison. In 1971, following the UAE's independence from Britain, Sheikh Rashid II ordered the fort's restoration and the establishment of a museum in its underground section. The museum’s exhibits offer a deep dive into Dubai's history, while the fort's courtyard displays traditional Arab dhows, small fishing boats, cannons, and an arish – a summer house made of palm fronds, among other artifacts.

Amusement parks and water parks

Legoland

A must-visit not only for those who loved LEGO sets as children but for everyone looking for a fun-filled day. At Legoland, you can tour a factory to see how those famous bricks are made and even create your own custom piece as a souvenir. The park features both Legoland with classic rides and Legoland Dubai Water Park with water attractions. Whether you're a parent or a child of any age, there's something here to captivate everyone.

Wild Wadi Waterpark

At first glance, it’s hard to believe Wild Wadi is a water park due to its architecture inspired by old Arabian tales. This park offers excitement for both kids and adults with an incredible variety of water attractions. For adrenaline and extreme sports lovers, the Jumeirah Sceirah slide is a must-try. Standing at 32 meters tall, it offers stunning views of Dubai. The park also features two artificial rivers. Juha’s Journey is perfect for a leisurely water stroll, while Flood River is for thrill-seekers, with waves reaching up to 1 meter high.

Zoos and wildlife reserves

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

Spend a whole day here enjoying and learning about various marine species and their habitats. You can walk through a tunnel while sharks swim overhead. For the adventurous, there's the option of cage snorkeling among marine creatures, including sharks. If you prefer something more tranquil, take a boat ride with a glass bottom.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

This nature reserve within Dubai is home to rare plants, endangered animals, fish, and crustaceans. However, the main attraction is the flock of over 500 pink flamingos. Don't worry about disturbing the locals. Observation platforms are well camouflaged. You won't need much time here, as a maximum of 30-40 minutes is sufficient to explore the sanctuary.

Shopping malls

Dubai Mall

Located near the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountains, it's the largest mall in the world. Covering approximately 1,100,000 m², it houses over 1,200 shops, restaurants, cafes, a cinema, and an aquarium. Dubai Mall is not just for shopping, it's also a place for entertainment and escape from the heat.

Mall of the Emirates

Situated almost in the city center on Sheikh Zayed road, this mall offers almost everything: entertainment, shops, and leisure facilities. With over 400 stores, from fashion to local sweets, Mall of the Emirates has it all. Don't miss the chance to explore traditional women's clothing in specialized abaya boutiques. You can also visit the Ski Dubai resort and the largest family entertainment center in the country, Magic Planet, all within the mall.

Markets

Spice Souk

We recommend this location to tourists who want to experience the atmosphere and colors of the country. The Spice Souk, or Old Deira Souk, is the epicenter of an unforgettable bouquet of Eastern spices. In addition to a variety of spices, you can also purchase other Eastern products here, from coffee to textiles and pottery. But beware, leaving without making a purchase will be very difficult.

Gold Souk

A symbol of the Eastern city, the Gold Souk is associated with wealth while maintaining ties to the country's traditions and customs. Some stalls resemble museums more than markets. Therefore, it's worth visiting not only for shopping but also to experience the colorful landmarks of the city.

Unusual statues and monuments

Dandelions Installation

The Dubai Fountain promenade is adorned with dandelions nearly 7 meters high. The work of Mircea Strugariu is one of the most famous and revered sculptures in the country, and it's also an excellent photo spot. The dandelions themselves reflect the majestic yet delicate architecture of the city. They look truly magical at night, becoming part of the light show.

Birthday Suit

In the city center opposite The Galliard, there's a sculpture that raises many questions. It's a bronze monkey standing 3,2 meters tall with a festive hat on its head and a bouquet of beautiful roses, created by the modern sculptor Joseph Klibansky. Birthday Suit is nothing more than a symbol of the celebration of life and love in their purest form. Moreover, the monkey in a festive suit symbolizes optimism about our future.

Streets and squares

Dubai Marina promenade and residential districts

Along the beach of the same name stretches a beautiful promenade. It is home to numerous attractions and restaurants, including a themed cafe with well-known fictional characters – Masha and the Bear. This cartoon has gained particular popularity among Arabs because the main character is dressed in accordance with their traditions: with a covered head and in a long dress. In addition to this, the promenade offers a wide selection of souvenirs, and the walls of houses adorned with street art by artists are mesmerizing. The skyscrapers deserve special attention: they are markedly different from Asian or American ones thanks to their beige color and distinctive Arab style.

Sheikh Zayed road

Dubai's longest street spans 55 kilometers. It has become the city's business heart with numerous offices and banks around it. Additionally, the International Trade Center and the Dubai Financial Center are located here, as well as major shopping complexes such as the Mall of the Emirates and Ibn-Battuta Mall. Among the notable landmarks, you can see the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Emirates Office Tower, Millennium Tower, and Rose Tower.

Beaches

Black Palace Beach

A secret beach practically in the city center, the road to which is known to few. Here, you can enjoy tranquility and witness unforgettable sunsets with views of Palm Jumeirah Island and the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab hotel. You can't rent a sun lounger and towel on the beach, so it's worth ensuring your comfort in advance. Black Palace Beach can only be reached by your car.

La Mer

Located in the heart of Dubai in the Jumeirah area with open parking, so you can drive here. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent, along with free changing rooms and showers. There's also a wide selection of cafes and restaurants here, a beautiful street for parents to stroll and shop, and an aqua park for children. Other activities include kayaking, water skiing, wakeboarding, and surfing.

Jumeirah Beach Residence – JBR

One of the most popular beaches in Dubai. It offers a wonderful view of the skyscrapers of the Dubai Marina area. There's a variety of entertainment options: an open-air cinema, kayak rentals, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, and flyboarding. Additionally, for an extra fee, you can get all the necessary amenities: a sun lounger, umbrella, and towels.

Fountains

The Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain, located near the Burj Khalifa tower and the Dubai Mall shopping complex, is an impressive sight. The fountain stretches 275 meters in length, with water jets soaring up to 150 meters high. Approximately 83 tons of water are used during each 30-minute show. This colorful spectacle takes place daily every half an hour, starting at 6:00 PM, accompanied by a blend of world musical hits and traditional Arabic melodies.

The Pearl Divers Fountain

A visual symbol of the Dubai Mall is the fountain resembling a waterfall with silver pearl divers. In reality, it consists of two identical fountains, each standing 24 meters tall, located in the shopping center opposite the main entrance. During the day, the waterfall is illuminated by light from the atrium and windows, while in the evening, it is accompanied by special multicolored lighting. Tourists often admire it, but perhaps not as deeply as locals, as the fountain's significance is understood best by them.

This is linked to Dubai's past when oil deposits had not yet been discovered. The soil was infertile, so people survived by fishing for seafood and consuming camel meat and milk. The only source of wealth was pearls, which divers painstakingly harvested in the Persian Gulf. Moreover, the waterfall showcases the beauty of water, which is cherished by Arabs in any manifestation, as they lived in the Arabian Desert until the 6th century. For them, this fountain is a cultural symbol of prosperity and abundance.

Each pavilion reflects the traditional style of the people producing the goods on display. Here, exciting shopping experiences blend with entertainment for both adults and children.

Ski Dubai Indoor Winter Resort

Escape the heat and blazing sun at the Ski Dubai amusement park, known for its 85-meter indoor ski slope. The temperature in the resort is usually maintained at -1 to -3°C. Visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. Thrill-seekers can try zorbing, rolling down the mountain slope in a transparent sphere at high speeds. Children can ride on inner tubes, build snow forts, and even interact with penguins.

Religious Buildings

Jumeirah Mosque

Among the city's most recognizable symbols, Jumeirah Mosque is one of the few open to tourists. Reflecting traditional Fatimid architecture from the 10th to 12th centuries, visitors can learn about the basic principles of Islam inside or visit the Centre for Cultural Understanding to learn more about other cultures and religions.

Guru Nanak Darbar

The first Sikh temple in the Persian Gulf, serving over 50,000 followers in Dubai. Tours of the shrine are available to people of all faiths. Situated in a beautiful and serene location away from the metropolis, the temple boasts a magnificent area spanning over 100,000 m².

The Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque And Centre

Dubai's largest mosque welcomes visitors of all faiths. Muslims come here not only for daily prayers but also for interesting lectures at the religious center. Visits must be booked in advance on the website.

Captivating experiences

Dubai camel racing at Dubai Camel Racing

Camel racing is one of the most popular and traditional sports in the UAE. The races take place on a racetrack located 30 minutes away from Dubai. The race lasts about 10-15 minutes and involves around 20 runners. Races are usually held once a week from October to February, allowing you to immerse yourself in the competition's atmosphere.

Bedouin Safari Tour

A visit to the Bedouins requires dedicating a whole day. First, you'll embark on a thrilling off-road adventure through Dubai's shifting sands, then stop at a Bedouin village for the main event. You'll get acquainted with their traditions and won't remain indifferent to their hospitality. In the village, you can ride camels, get henna tattoos, perform local dances and songs, and then enjoy a delicious dinner. The cost of such entertainment starts from $40 per group and $420 for an individual tour.

Where to eat best in Dubai

Ossiano

An underwater restaurant at Atlantis The Palm hotel. Ossiano was named the best restaurant of the year by the French guide Gault Millau, renowned for its critique of exquisite cuisine. Guests can savor traditional Catalan dishes and marvel at the beauty of the underwater world through the panoramic aquarium.

Asil Restaurant

A restaurant serving Middle Eastern and Turkish cuisine with a view of Jumeirah Beach and the world's tallest Ferris wheel, Ain Dubai.
